Here at the Salisbury Highway Veterinary Surgery (SHVS) we employ a method of
consultation which increases the contact time with the
staff at the surgery. This enables us to give your pet the best possible care when
he/she is ill or injured. It also ensures that you (a
caring pet owner) are fully aware of the diseases we are
able to effectively prevent, for example Parvovirus,
Heartworm or Cat Flu, and can advise and implement
appropriate preventative measures for you.
The surgery has a digital x-ray
machine. This machine allows us to take better
quality diagnostic radiographs in a shorter amount of
time, making the procedure less stressful for your pet.
The surgery is also equipped with state of the art laboratory equipment so many blood test
results are available on the same day. Other
equipment includes
two anaesthetic
machines, anaesthetic monitoring devices (including a
blood pressure monitor, and pulse oximeter), an IM3
dental system and 2 ultrasonic scalers, intravenous fluid
pumps and a sonic instrument cleaner. This equipment,
and others, ensures your pet receives the best possible
care when he/she needs to stay with us for treatment.
Should your pet require after hours care, we will refer
you to the Adelaide Animal Emergency Centre, Anzac
Highway, Kurralta Park. The phone number is 8371
0333.
We also have a very good working relationship with the
Adelaide Veterinary Specialist and Referral Centre and
the Companion Animal Health Centre (Roseworthy Campus of
the University of Adelaide). We will refer you to the
appropriate place if your pet requires a veterinary
specialist.
SHVS use a very new vaccine which means your puppy can have his/her
last puppy vaccine at 10 weeks of age. The vaccine will
protect against Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis and two
types of Kennel Cough. This ensures that you will be
able to get your puppy out and about sooner to ensure
adequate socialisation. Thereafter your dog needs
annual health checks and vaccination.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find the money to pay an
unexpected vet bill or have routine surgery done on your
pet. In these instances we invite you to apply for
GE Care
Credit, which enables you to pay for your pet’s
treatment over time (for veterinary treatment totalling
$300 or more). Our staff are able to apply for you
at the surgery and will often be able to advise whether
you have been approved. The plan, through GE
Money, gives a 12 month interest free payment plan and
will help take the worry out of paying for your much
loved pet’s treatment.*
Our newest payment plan is Vet Pay which is a more
flexible plan and may suit clients that aren't current
working as having employment is not a prerequisite for
approval. You will need to pay a deposit
and the remainder will be debited monthly from your
nominated bank account. Clients can be pre
approved for Vet Pay and can use the service for routine
procedures, eg desexing, vaccinations and/or heartworm
prevention, as well as for unexpected emergencies.
Please speak to
our friendly staff about which payment plan may best
suit you.
Also ask our staff about pet insurance. Having your pet insured will
help take the financial worry away when your pet is ill
or injured.
Every dog from the age of 12 weeks old is required to be
registered. Registration renewals are due in July. We
are able to process your dog’s council registration
(cash payments only) for dogs residing in the Salisbury
Council area.
Community Awareness and Animal Welfare are paramount to
the staff and management of Salisbury Highway Veterinary
Surgery. Currently we sponsor a Dusky Langur at the
Adelaide Zoo and we regularly give veterinary assistance
to animals brought in by the RSPCA and the
Salisbury Council.
*An establishment fee applies for all approved
applicants. A monthly account service fee applies when
there is an outstanding balance on the account.
